E-file Gains in Popularity

With a record 141 million individual returns filed for 2008 tax year represent a increase of  6 percent over previous year that used e-file.

With a record of 95 million returns e-filed compared to previous year of 90 million indicates  more people are using the Internet especially where filing taxes are concerned.  According to the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) two out of three taxpayers e-filed this year totaling 67 percent of returns filed.

Home Computer Tax Filing

Individuals using home computers and free e-filing services represents the significant increase. Many companies , including my own offer online tax filing services with a free version taxpayers can use to e-file their returns.  Of course, IRS free e-file services are available to taxpayers.

Tax Filing using a home computer accounts for nearly 34 percent of all returns filed. This is an increase of  168 percent from a decade ago (IR-2009-99).   This figure seems to indicate home computer use and the Internet the norm.
